Polder

In the Netherlands, designer Hella Jongerius’ homeland, ‘polder’ means a piece of land that was reclaimed from sea with dykes and canals. The flat, low and elongated design of both Polder sofas resembles a polder landscape. The large seat cushions of the Polder Sofa and Polder Compact make for a very comfortable asymmetrical seating surface flanked on both sides by the upholstered body. The shape of the body is what sets both sofas apart from each other: the Polder Sofa comes with an integrated low armrest on one side, while the other side features a platform that can be used as storage space for magazines, books or saucers. The Polder Sofa offers plenty of room to stretch out either sitting or lying down. The Polder Compact, on the other hand, has a body with two uneven armrests that limit the dimensions of the sofa.
