Make the most of the outdoors while working

16/08/2023

More than ever, the working environment contributes to employee engagement and performance in the workplace. You can create experience, inspiration, and motivation among your employees with the right interior. The outdoor space also deserves due consideration here as an extension of your existing office.

We can find inspiration, relaxation, and peace outside more quickly. Several studies show that nature has a positive impact on our well-being and productivity. They call it the ‘outdoor effect’. The biggest obstacle to spending more time outdoors is often cited as our daily work. Yet there are plenty of opportunities to bring more nature into your life even during the working day, for example with an outdoor space in the office. So, it pays to actively engage with this observation. More and more companies, meanwhile, are recognising this need. What are you waiting for?

Optimising your outdoor space invites your employees to go outside more and enjoy the fresh air and nature. Before you start on the exterior design, it is best to think about the purpose. A relaxation zone or alternative place to have lunch? Or do you also want to give employees the chance to work (together) outdoors?

Putting your employees first and providing them with the necessary comfort is essential in both cases.

  • First, the furniture. This offers quite enough space, not only for things, but equally for larger groups. When choosing, pay attention to the weather resistance and abrasion resistance of the materials and fabrics. And also take the ease of maintenance, heat absorption, and the substrate into account.
  • Furthermore, a suitable canopy is desirable so that the bright sun or a Belgian rainstorm don’t throw a spanner in the works when it comes to working outside.
  • Provide sufficient (natural) partitions to ensure privacy and reduce distractions.
  • Finally, Wi-Fi connection and charging points for laptops and smartphones are obviously necessary for your employees to work or meet productively outdoors.

With today’s war for talent, an outdoor office can really make a difference!
