Basel Chair

With the Basel Chair, Jasper Morrison innovates the classic, simple wooden chair as it has been produced in large numbers and many versions for 100 years. What catches the eye right away are the harmonious proportions, but closer inspection reveals an important innovation. The seat and backrest are made of plastic, a material that is much easier to shape than wood. This allows for the material to be executed much thinner with a better surface structure and an organic shape; making the design slimmer and more flexible. Thanks to this combination of materials, the Basel Chair provides a considerably more comfortable seat compared to chairs entirely made of wood. Moreover, the two-colour design is very pleasing to the eye.
