EnergyVille

Sustainable energy research.

Research institutions KU Leuven, VITO, imec and UHasselt bundle their sustainable energy research in EnergyVille. EnergyVille aims to help achieve the energy transition and receives support from both local and international partners. The energy transition is a priority for Europe as well. Located at Thor Park, the former mining site of Waterschei in Genk, EnergyVille will contribute to the transition from black to green gold, from coal to green energy. A living lab to be reckoned with, unique in Europe!

A living lab for a sustainable energy transition is of great importance for the future. The energy sector is essential to the Belgian economy. EnergyVille’s top-notch research contributes to identifying and capitalising on various opportunities in the future, especially when it comes to renewable energy sources. It is vital to keep working on renewable energy in order to guarantee a healthy and comfortable life for our children in a society liberated from CO2 emissions. EnergyVille’s activities are reflected in the building itself, which is entirely energy-neutral; one reason why it was awarded the BREEAM Excellent label.
